Edward C. Dupont, Jr.

Chairman

Ed Dupont is president and founder of the Dupont Group. Ed’s political career included five successive terms in the New Hampshire State Senate beginning in 1983 and ending in 1992. While in the Senate, Ed served as Senate Majority Leader and Vice Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. As a member of the Finance Committee and chairman of other standing committees, Ed developed extensive knowledge of utility, technology and banking issues. Ed co-chaired the joint Senate/House Committee that developed the first comprehensive reorganization of state government in over twenty years. Ed's efforts led to the consolidation of several state agencies, including the creation of a new Department of Environmental Services.

In 1990, Ed was elected President of the Senate. During his term as Senate President, he established and chaired the first standing legislative committee on economic development in New Hampshire’s history. Under his leadership, the legislature adopted initiatives to stimulate capital creation, established the state's economic development fund, provided research and developmental assistance for emerging companies, and reformed the state's Business Profits Tax (BPT) to include tax credits for job creation and capital investment.

Ed attended the University of New Hampshire and after finishing his studies founded Strafford Fuels Inc., a distributor of petroleum products and services located in Rochester, NH.

Ed has served on the boards of a number of organizations. He currently is serving as Chair of the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees, and as a director of Merchantbanc. Ed has had a life long interest in aviation and is an instrument rated private pilot. Ed resides in Durham with his wife Andrea and two daughters.
